These days when we’re spending more time at home, a lot of people take the time to clear out their place. We’re going through a challenging time for sure and this is a way of making the best out of the situation. At the change of seasons, it’s the perfect time to rearrange your wardrobe and create space for some exciting Spring clothes. Building a “capsule wardrobe” is environmentally friendly and it will also help you cut down on unnecessary expenses. The term was invented by Susie Faux, owner of a boutique called Wardrobe, in London in the 1970s. The idea is that you limit your amount of clothing items to the absolute essentials. You go for high-quality, long-lasting pieces that you can keep for years. The garments should be color coordinated and interchangeable, so that you can create many different outfits with very few pieces of clothing. It makes your life a lot easier and it limits the time you spend choosing your daily outfit in the morning.
So how do you go about when creating your own capsule wardrobe? Start by clearing out everything you don’t use anymore. Only keep the clothes that fit you and that you use in your everyday life. You can split it up in different categories if that makes it easier for you. For example: home wear, office wear, gym wear and evening wear. In the end you shouldn’t have more than 50 pieces (including accessories and shoes). But creating a capsule wardrobe is really more about becoming mindful of the clothes you own and being more intentional when purchasing new garments, rather than sticking to a certain number.
A capsule wardrobe can look completely different depending on your personal taste and your lifestyle. For your inspiration I’ve put together 10 key pieces that you can easily dress up or down and that you can wear for many different occasions.
